Manage messages from non-friends
Change your incoming-message preference in Discovery & contact.
Messages separates friends and other conversations. Your current incoming-message preference controls whether a non-friend can contact you, including in an existing conversation.
What to do
- Open Account & security → Manage privacy.
- Choose whether to allow messages from non-friends.
- Save the settings and return to Messages.

Account controls will ask you to sign in.
Good to know
Becoming friends or changing the setting can change who can reply. Blocking is a separate control.
